🏠 How housing selection works at Bowdoin College

requires on-campus housing for all students for their first three years. Seniors may opt for off-campus housing, though many choose to remain on campus. Bowdoin guarantees housing for all students who want it.

First-Year Housing:All incoming students are assigned to a residence arriving on campus. Assignments are based on a lifestyle questionnaire; students cannot choose their building. Freshmen are primarily placed in the first-year but also distributed across campus in many cases.

Bowdoin Dining:Bowdoin operates a -based dining system with two main dining halls (Thorne and Moulton Union). All students on the meal plan have access to both; there is no per- as at some schools.

Room Selection:After first year, students enter a room selection lottery each spring. Selection times are assigned randomly within class cohorts (seniors first). Students may select from the full range of available rooms and suites across campus.

Special Communities:Bowdoin offers a number of special-interest houses and , including the and others. Applications for these are separate from the general lottery and typically due earlier in the spring.
