🏠 How housing selection works at Colby College

is a fully — all students are required to live on campus for all four years. The college guarantees housing to every student, and Colby's integrated is central to its educational model.

First-Year Housing:All incoming students are assigned to residence halls before arriving on campus. Freshmen complete a lifestyle questionnaire, and makes placements based on preferences. Students cannot choose their specific building. Freshmen are distributed across the campus in both all-class-year and first-year focused buildings.

Room Draw:After first year, students enter an online room selection lottery each spring. Selection times are assigned within class cohorts; rising seniors draw first, then juniors, then sophomores. Students may room together as groups for doubles or suites.

Colby Cares Floors & Communities:Colby offers wellness, substance-free, and quiet-hours floors within existing dorms. Students can apply for these through a separate preference form in the spring.

Groups (RLGs):Colby's alternative to Greek houses — small groups of students can apply to manage a a floor in a more self-governing community. RLGs have a non-selective, theme-based membership model.
