🏠 How housing selection works at Grinnell College

guarantees housing for all four years and requires students to live on campus unless they are seniors living with immediate family nearby or have received an official exemption.

First-Year Students:All first-years are assigned to residence halls by the Office of using a housing questionnaire. First-year halls are clustered on the north end of campus and include Younker, Smith, Langan, Rawson, Gates, Clark, Cowles, Dibble, Norris, Loose, Read, and Haines Halls — all older corridor-style buildings without air conditioning.

Upperclass Students:Returning students participate in a spring room-selection lottery. Students with more accumulated credits generally receive earlier selection times. Popular upperclass options include:

• and Main Hall— centrally located corridor halls, no AC; popular for proximity to academic buildings
