🏠 Harvard University — Parent Guide

Helping parents understand dorm options, safety, accessibility, and what to expect at Harvard University.

💡 Tips for parents reviewing dorm options:

🏠 How housing selection works at Harvard University

Harvard College requires all undergraduate students to live in college housing throughout their four years. The residential experience is central to life at Harvard.

First-Year Housing: Incoming students are assigned to residence halls by the Housing Office based on preference surveys and other factors. First-year housing is located on campus.

Upperclass Housing: Returning students participate in a housing lottery system each spring. Students may live in college residential facilities or approved off-campus housing. Housing options include a range of residential styles and locations.

Harvard's dining program is integrated with residential housing, creating a strong residential community experience. For current housing procedures and timelines, see the Housing Office website.
