Helping parents understand dorm options, safety, accessibility, and what to expect at Haverford College.
guarantees on-campus housing for all four years and requires students to live on campus for their first three years. Haverford has a small student body of approximately 1,400 undergraduates, and its tight-knit is shaped by the college's Honor Code, which governs academic and social conduct.
First-Year Housing:All incoming students are assigned to a residence before arriving. The classic first-year halls are Gummere, Barclay, and Comfort Halls on the historic core of campus. Placements consider lifestyle preferences from the housing questionnaire. Students cannot select their specific building.
Room Draw:After first year, students participate in a spring room draw. Students receive a random number within their class cohort; seniors draw first, then juniors, then sophomores. Students may form groups to select together. Room types range from singles and doubles in traditional halls to suites and apartments in Apartments (HCA), which are popular with upperclassmen.
Apartments (HCA):On-campus apartment-style housing available to upperclassmen. Students in the apartments share kitchens and living rooms, and the apartments offer a more independent lifestyle while remaining on campus.
Special Interest Housing:Haverford offers a small number of theme and special interest houses. These include language houses and affinity-based communities. Applications are due before the general room draw in spring.
Bryn Mawr Reciprocity:Haverford and have a close partnership — students at each school can take classes, use facilities, and even live at the other college under reciprocal housing arrangements (subject to availability). This is a unique feature not found at most small liberal arts colleges.
