Lafayette is a fully residential college; virtually all students live on campus all four years. First-year students are placed in on-campus housing by the Office of Residence Life as part of their initial enrollment. Returning students secure housing each spring through three distinct paths: a Housing Application (for thematic and living-group spaces), a Group Roster (for designated group arrangements), or the Housing Lottery, which opens options by housing type in March–April.
The lottery uses a weighted seniority system — rising seniors receive earlier selection times than juniors, who receive earlier times than sophomores. Roommate groups' selection times are averaged across all members. Students without a housing assignment after the lottery may join a waitlist that runs through May 1.
