NDSU uses a date-based priority system rather than a traditional lottery. First-year students submit a housing application (with a fully refundable $100 deposit) through Campus Connection, and room selection times are assigned in the order applications are received — the sooner you apply, the earlier your selection slot. Online room self-selection takes place in mid-to-late March; students who have not selected by April 1 are assigned by Residence Life.
First-year students must apply by March 9 to participate in self-selection (March 16–31). Current students renew housing during a January sign-up window. Transfer and graduate students are assigned on a space-available basis after the initial selection rounds conclude.
