Helping parents understand dorm options, safety, accessibility, and what to expect at Pomona College.
guarantees on-campus housing for all four years and requires all students to live on campus. With approximately 1,700 undergraduates, Pomona has a small but vibrant spread across a beautiful campus in Claremont, California.
First-Year Housing:Incoming students are assigned to one of five on-campus housing (Clark I, Clark II, Clark III, Mudd-Blaisdell, or Oldenborg) before arriving. These freshmen-focused halls are clustered together to encourage connections among the entering class. Placements are based on lifestyle questionnaire results. Students cannot request a specific hall.
Sponsor Programs:Each on-campus housing participates in a Sponsor Program, where upperclassmen (Sponsors) live on the same floor as first-year students and provide peer mentorship, host social events, and help freshmen navigate college life. Sponsors apply and are selected each spring — this is a valued student leadership role at Pomona.
Room Selection (Upperclass):After first year, students participate in a spring room selection process. Students receive a random selection number within their class cohort; rising seniors select first, then juniors, then sophomores. Students may form pull groups for doubles, triples, or suites. South Campus and on-campus housing majority of upperclassmen.
Oldenborg Center:is Pomona's international and language-focused . It features language tables at meals, resident language fellows, and programming around global perspectives. Residency in Oldenborg requires a language commitment or a demonstrated interest in international culture.
Claremont Consortium (5Cs):Pomona students share classes and can use facilities across all seven Claremont Colleges. Housing exchange with partner colleges is possible but limited. Most Pomona students prefer to remain on their own campus, which has a strong sense of community and identity.
