Helping parents understand dorm options, safety, accessibility, and what to expect at Tufts University.
Two-year residency requirement.First- and second-year undergraduates at Tufts are required to live in university-managed housing.
First-year placement.First-years are placed across the central Hill: Houston, Hodgdon, Tilton, Bush, Lewis, Carmichael, Hill, Wren, Richardson, and Miller. Hodgdon Food-on-the-Run and Carmichael Dining are the two main first-year dining halls. Roommates are matched via summer survey.
Sophomore placement.Returning sophomores enter a class-priority lottery. Latin Way, (newer suite), and the older houses are popular. Honors students and special-interest housing place residents together.
Upper-class options.Juniors and seniors choose the apartments, the Wren area, or apply for the small Tufts-owned wood-frame houses. Many also move into off-campus housing in Medford and Somerville.
Greek life.Tufts has a small Greek system with several recognized chapters maintaining houses on Professors Row, College Avenue, and adjacent streets.
