🏠 How housing selection works at University of California, Los Angeles

UCLA guarantees housing for all incoming freshmen and first-year transfer students for their first year on campus — one of very few large public universities to do so. The is organized around three main hill-side clusters above the main campus in Westwood, with a combined capacity of roughly 13,000 undergraduates.

First-Year Housing:All incoming freshmen are guaranteed housing if they apply by the deadline. UCLA's residence halls are organized into three "hill" clusters: the North Area, the South Area, and the Sunset Canyon Recreation Area $1 — apartment-style, quieter, a short walk to main campus). Students rank preferences among the three areas and indicate lifestyle preferences (substance-free, quiet, co-ed bathrooms).

:UCLA operates six , each embedded in the on-campus housing (DeNeve cluster), offering a smaller-community feel within the large . Each college has a unique identity and theme. Rieber, Sproul, and other halls on campus also offer . College (part of the UCLA Honors Program) provides dedicated floor programming for honors students.

Returning students apply for on-campus apartments (Sproul Cove, the Olympic and Canyon Point communities) through a continuing-resident lottery with points accumulated by year. Many UCLA sophomores and upperclassmen live off campus in the neighborhood, Brentwood, and the surrounding West LA communities.
