🏠 How housing selection works at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill does not require students to live on campus, but incoming freshmen who apply by the priority deadline are guaranteed housing. UNC's serves approximately 9,000 students across a mix of traditional halls, suite-style buildings, and apartment communities on and near the Chapel Hill campus.

First-Year Housing:Freshmen apply for housing in the spring, selecting preferences by residence . The main freshman include: Hinton James; the South Campus cluster; and the Kenan-Flagler Business School area (for business LLC students). Students indicate room-type preferences and lifestyle options (substance-free, quiet, gender-inclusive bathrooms).

Living Learning Communities:UNC offers more than 15 LLCs embedded system. Notable communities include the (CRC — a selective intellectual community with faculty programming and small seminar courses), the Global Language Community, the Honors LLC, and several major-specific communities (Business LLC, Engineering LLC, Nursing LLC). LLC applications are part of the housing application.

Honors Housing — Morrison Hall:UNC's Honors Program students have access to dedicated housing in with programming, faculty connections, and a cohort of academically motivated peers. Application requires enrollment in Carolina Honors.

Upperclass Housing:Returning students apply for on-campus apartments $1 Craige North) through a continuing-student lottery with seniority-based priority. Many UNC sophomores and upperclassmen live off campus in Chapel Hill and Carrboro — particularly in the Franklin Street corridor, Ephesus-Fordham area, and the surrounding neighborhoods.
