UW requires all first-year students under 21 who are single and not living locally to live in the residence halls for their first two semesters. Students apply through the Housing Portal and pay a $250 application fee ($100 nonrefundable processing fee + $150 deposit). Priority placement for fall is given to applications received by May 1, after which students are assigned based on availability.
