💡 Tips for parents reviewing dorm options:

🏠 How housing selection works at Wesleyan University

Wesleyan University requires on-campus housing for first-year students and guarantees housing for all four years. The housing system reflects Wesleyan's eclectic, student-driven culture — with options ranging from traditional residence halls to student-run program houses and off-campus Wesleyan-owned houses.

First-Year Housing:All incoming students are assigned to one of several first-year , primarily on Foss Hill or in the on-campus housingitories. Assignments are based on a lifestyle questionnaire. Students cannot choose their specific building.

Room Draw for Upperclassmen:After freshman year, students enter a lottery-based room draw each spring. Students receive random draw numbers; those with earlier numbers get to select their room first. Students may draw for any available room on campus, giving significant flexibility. The draw includes traditional dorms, suites, and apartments.

Program Houses:Wesleyan has a variety of student-operated program houses that are separate from the main . These include the Malcolm X House, (LGBTQ+), and others. Applications for program houses are due in the spring, before the main room draw.

Off-Campus Wesleyan Houses:Wesleyan owns a cluster of houses on and around Church Street. These are available to juniors and seniors through a separate lottery and function more like student-run cooperative apartments than traditional dorms.
