Three-year residency requirement.All UChicago undergraduates are required to live in university-managed housing for their first three years (with limited commuter exemptions). Most fourth-years move into off-campus apartments in Hyde Park.

Residence commons.Each commons contains 4–8 houses. Burton-Judson Courts and Snell- are the oldest. Max Palevsky (2002), Campus North (2016), South Campus (2009), Renée Granville-Grossman (2020), and Woodlawn (2020) are newer. Returning students can request a but most stay they were assigned.
Greek life.UChicago has a small Greek system. Recognized chapters do not generally maintain on-campus chapter houses, though some have nearby off-campus houses in Hyde Park.
