Originally built in 1946 and renovated in 1973, the building was razed in 2004 and rebuilt in its current form in 2005. [First-Year Quad East] Built in 1946 to address post-WWII housing demand and renovated in 2005, James Hall is one of the most socially vibrant first-year dorms at Amherst. Six-story building with elevator access. Its interconnected basement with Stearns Hall creates a shared hub featuring music practice rooms and laundry facilities — a major social gathering point. Known for fostering exceptionally close floor communities. Contains mostly doubles with some singles; approximately 100 students total. Higher ceilings and lighter spaces following the 2005 renovation.
