Sulzberger Hall is the only Quad building at Barnard with air conditioning — a major asset during the hot September weeks when fall semester begins. The building is split between first-year floors (lower) and Sulzberger Tower (upperclass, floors 3+). First-year floors have corridor doubles, triples, and quads; the Tower has singles and doubles for upperclass residents. Each floor has one female-only and one gender-inclusive bathroom, each with 3 stalls and 3 showers. The Tower floors are the most sought-after residential assignment at Barnard — the combination of AC, NYC skyline views, and proximity to Columbia and the 116th St. subway makes this a premium location. Upperclass residents in the Tower describe it as the best of both worlds: dorm community with apartment-level privacy.
