Cathedral Gardens is one of Barnard's most unique residential options — a 10-floor building on Manhattan Avenue where students live on floors 2–6 and faculty occupy floors 7–9 (floor 10 has common facilities). It is the only Barnard residence with dishwashers in every unit, making it a step above other suite options in terms of amenities. A TV lounge and laundry room on the 10th floor serve as a community gathering point. The mixed student-faculty model is by design — Barnard has long believed that living near faculty enriches the intellectual life of students. Cathedral Gardens attracts upperclass students who appreciate the quieter, more independent atmosphere and the unique NYC living experience with better-than-average amenities.
