Bridgewater State University is a public university founded in 1840 as one of Massachusetts's first state normal schools, located in Bridgewater in Plymouth County south of Boston. Serving approximately 9,000 students, BSU offers strong programs in education, business, criminal justice, psychology, and the sciences. The Bears compete in the MASCAC, and the university's location within commuting distance of Boston provides students with access to a major metropolitan region while studying in a traditional college-town setting.
