Alspaugh House is one of Duke's East Campus first-year houses, a traditional Gothic-style corridor building with double rooms and communal bathrooms. No air conditioning — typical of East Campus's 1920s-era buildings. Like all East Campus houses, Alspaugh houses exclusively first-year students and has its own RA team, traditions, and community identity. The East Campus first-year experience is designed to build community and the Duke "Gothic identity" before students move to West Campus for upper years.
