Grand Valley State University is a public research university founded in 1960 on a scenic 1,000-acre campus along the Grand River in Allendale Township, west of Grand Rapids. Serving approximately 25,000 students, GVSU has grown rapidly to become one of the largest universities in Michigan. The university offers strong programs in health sciences, engineering, business, and education. The Lakers compete in the GLIAC and GVSU's Allendale campus is complemented by its Pew Grand Rapids Campus downtown.
