South Hall is one of Harvey Mudd's four inner dorms, forming part of the U-shaped courtyard that anchors HMC's residential community. Housing approximately 80–90 students in 2-room suite configurations with shared bathrooms, South combines the social energy of a courtyard-facing dorm with the relative privacy of suite-style living. All rooms have central air conditioning — essential in Claremont's inland Southern California climate where summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F. In-building laundry serves all floors.
