Hofstra University, founded in 1935, is a private research university in Hempstead, Long Island, about 25 miles east of Midtown Manhattan. With about 11,000 students, Hofstra is known for its communication, business, law, and health sciences programs. The tree-lined campus features Georgian Colonial architecture and a strong residential tradition, with over 40% of undergraduates living on campus. Hofstra has hosted two U.S. Presidential debates.
