Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a public research university and a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, founded in 1875 in Indiana, a small borough in western Pennsylvania's coal and natural gas country. Serving approximately 8,500 students, IUP offers programs across a broad range of disciplines including education, business, criminology, nursing, and the sciences. Despite the naming similarity, IUP has no affiliation with Indiana University in Bloomington. The Crimson Hawks compete in the PSAC.
