About Taylor House

Taylor House is one of Lehigh's most historically significant residence halls. The original U-shaped building dates to 1907, making it one of the earliest reinforced concrete structures ever constructed. It was a gift from industrialist Andrew Carnegie in honor of his friend and Lehigh trustee Charles L. Taylor (Class of 1876). In 1984 the interior was fully reconstructed and Taylor became Lehigh's first residential college — a model in which faculty and staff live alongside students to create an intellectually rich living-and-learning environment. Taylor House places particular emphasis on community, academic exploration, and mentorship, and features robust faculty-in-residence programming with regular dinners, events, and informal conversations. Rooms follow a traditional corridor style with singles and doubles. The common spaces are notably warmer and more inviting than in many other first-year halls, reflecting decades of residential college culture.
