About Charlotte Forten Hall

Charlotte Forten Hall is the newest residence hall at Salem State University, LEED Gold certified and housing 350 residents across four floors in suite-style arrangements. Named in 2024 after Charlotte Forten, the first African American graduate of the institution (class of 1856). The ground floor features a Starbucks café, meeting spaces, mailboxes, vending, and laundry; each floor has television and study lounges. (Previously named Viking Hall.)
