Parrish Hall is the iconic heart of Swarthmore's campus — a grand Victorian structure built after the original 1881 fire destroyed the college's first building, which had been designed by architect Addison Hutton. Named for the college's founding president Edward Parrish, the building sits at the top of the central hill and is the most photographed structure on campus. The first and second floors house administrative offices and the college's social hub, while the third and fourth floors contain residential rooms — primarily singles for upperclassmen, with some doubles and triples for first-years. Communal bathrooms are shared by each floor. Living in Parrish puts students at the literal and symbolic center of campus life.
