[First-Year] Known simply as "JL," Josephine Louise Residence Hall is Tulane's only all-female first-year dorm, located on the original Newcomb College campus. The building opened in September 1918 and carries a rich history — it was briefly used as a quarantine and overflow infirmary during the Spanish Influenza pandemic. Named for philanthropist Josephine Louise Lemonnier Newcomb, it has a distinctive historic character. Rooms are spacious for a first-year hall, featuring built-in sinks and remarkably large closets. The sisterhood and community atmosphere here is widely praised. JL is air-conditioned.
