Arizona-Sonora Hall is part of UA's distinctive Sonora Residential District — a cluster of 1960s terraced "ziggurat" buildings that are one of the most architecturally distinctive residence hall complexes in the United States (designed by Friedman & Jobusch Architects, 1965). The buildings use a stacked terraced design adapted to the desert climate, with each floor recessed to create large outdoor terraces for the floor above. Arizona-Sonora offers semi-private bathroom suites and is popular with students who appreciate the unique architecture and the central location. The Sonora District also includes Gila, Cochise, Maricopa, and Yuma Halls.
