The University of Texas at El Paso, founded in 1914, is a public research university in El Paso on the US–Mexico border. With about 24,000 students, UTEP is one of the largest majority-Hispanic universities in the United States and is nationally recognized for its mining engineering, geological sciences, and border public health programs. The campus is known for its distinctive Bhutanese architecture, which creates one of the most visually unique campuses in the country.
