Garfield House opened in 2019 as Williams College's most recently constructed residence and one of the most environmentally advanced dorms in the United States, achieving PHIUS (Passive House Institute US) certification. Like Horn Hall, Garfield uses Passive House design principles for exceptional energy efficiency. A smaller, house-scale building, Garfield offers a tight-knit community for upperclass students. Communal bathrooms. No air conditioning (the Passive House ventilation system maintains comfortable temperatures without traditional cooling). Located near central campus.
