About Random Hall

Random Hall is MIT's smallest and quirkiest residence hall — a 95-person 1950s building located off the main MIT campus on the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Vassar Street (a 5-minute walk). Random is famously self-governing and eccentric, with a culture that prizes independence, creativity, and intellectual exploration. Corridor-style rooms with communal bathrooms, no central AC. Random's unusual name reflects both its quirky culture and the fact that it was originally numbered randomly on MIT's building map.
