South Carolina State University (SCSU) is the only public, historically Black land-grant research university in South Carolina, founded in 1896 in Orangeburg. SCSU is a member of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs across a range of disciplines, with particular strengths in engineering, education, business, and the arts. The 160-acre campus is home to approximately 2,650 students.
