About Julia Tutwiler Hall

Julia Tutwiler Hall is the University of Alabama's largest women's residence hall, named for Julia Strudwick Tutwiler (1841–1916), a pioneering Alabama educator and prison reformer who is credited with integrating the university and establishing its co-educational character. The hall offers corridor-style living with shared bathrooms on each floor, and its long history on campus has made it one of UA's most iconic residential buildings. Tutwiler Hall houses Julia's Market, an on-site convenience store and dining option, on the ground floor. The building's central campus location, just off the historic Quad, makes it one of the most desirable first-year and upperclass women's residential options on campus.
