About John Muir College Residence Halls

John Muir College is one of UCSD's eight residential colleges, known for having the most flexible general education requirements and a free-spirited, independent intellectual identity. Named for the conservationist John Muir, the college's residence halls (including McGill Hall and Matthews Hall) offer a mix of corridor-style and suite-style rooms. Muir's location on the east side of upper campus gives it proximity to the Geisel Library — UCSD's iconic spaceship-like main library — and the Price Center student hub. Popular with social science and humanities students.
