The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is a selective public research university in Catonsville, Maryland, just southwest of Baltimore, enrolling approximately 13,500 students. UMBC is nationally recognized for undergraduate research and its Meyerhoff Scholars Program for STEM students. About 4,000 students live on campus in a mix of corridor halls, suite halls, and apartment communities. All hall and suite residents carry a meal plan; apartment residents do not.
