The University of Wyoming is the only four-year university in the state of Wyoming and a public research institution located in Laramie on the high plains of southeastern Wyoming at an elevation of 7,220 feet. Founded in 1886, UW is known for its programs in energy resources, law, veterinary sciences, geology, and environmental science. The university serves approximately 13,000 students and is surrounded by the natural landscapes and outdoor recreation of the Rocky Mountain West.
