About Severance Hall

Severance Hall is a stately Gothic Revival building constructed in 1926, funded primarily by alumna Elizabeth Severance Prentiss, and sits atop a hill overlooking Severance Green. It forms one side of the iconic U-shaped complex with Tower Court and Claflin Hall that frames Lake Waban. Connected to Tower Court and its dining hall, Severance houses 162 students in 100 bedrooms and underwent a comprehensive two-phase renovation in 2022–2023 that added kitchenettes, enhanced accessibility, and modernized life-safety systems while preserving its historic character.
