West College — universally known as "WestCo" — is one of Wesleyan's most distinctive and storied residence halls. It is a unique and historic community that houses artistically inclined students devoted to art, music, and social activism. WestCo emphasizes community input and creative event planning through weekly "Guidance" town hall meetings led by four elected presidents. Residents are encouraged to keep their doors open to foster connection, and upper-class residents often take on mentorship roles with first-year residents. The building features its own student-run event space, "the Café." All bathrooms are multi-use, all-gender. WestCo is a walk-up building with no elevator and no air conditioning. Applications are not required for incoming first-year students — assignment is done at the discretion of Residential Life.
