Reed College is a private liberal arts college of about 1,400 students in southeast Portland, Oregon, known for its rigorous academics, honor principle governing student conduct, and distinctively unconventional campus culture. Founded in 1908, Reed requires a year-long Humanities 110 course and a senior thesis for all students. The college is consistently ranked as one of the most intellectually intense undergraduate institutions in the country and has produced the highest per-capita rate of eventual PhD recipients of any U.S. liberal arts college.
