Danawell Hall is Swarthmore's first purpose-built new residence hall in decades, opened in 2016. The building physically connects the historic Dana Hall and Hallowell Hall with a modern addition, creating a unified residential community while preserving the character of the older buildings. Danawell provides central air conditioning — a rare amenity among Swarthmore's mostly historic residential buildings — along with updated bathrooms and energy-efficient mechanical systems. Like the halls it connects, Danawell offers corridor-style living with communal all-gender bathrooms per floor. The seamless integration with Dana and Hallowell means residents share common spaces, laundry, and study rooms across all three buildings, making it part of a larger residential hub at the center of campus.
