Revelle College is the founding and most scientifically rigorous of UCSD's eight residential colleges, established in 1964 and named for the university's first chancellor, Roger Revelle. Revelle's residence halls (primarily Tioga and Tenaya Halls) house first-year students in traditional corridor-style doubles and triples with communal bathrooms. Revelle has the most demanding general education requirements of any UCSD college, with a strong emphasis on the natural sciences, mathematics, and humanities. Revelle students have an outsized presence in the sciences and engineering. The college sits on the west edge of campus above the eucalyptus canyons.
