Martel College is one of Rice's two newest residential colleges, opened in 2002 alongside McMurtry College and named for Paul and Peggy Martel. Martel features modern residential architecture with suite-style rooms and air conditioning throughout. Known for its welcoming, socially active community, Martel has developed a strong college identity in its relatively short history. The college is one of the more modern residential facilities in the Rice system, with updated amenities and collaborative spaces.
