Sid Richardson College was Rice's eighth residential college, founded in 1971 and named for Sid W. Richardson, a Texas oilman and philanthropist. "Sid Rec" has a reputation for a laid-back, welcoming community and is known for its friendly, inclusive atmosphere. Traditional corridor-style rooms with communal bathrooms, all air-conditioned. Sid Richardson is located between the original six colleges and the newer colleges, placing it near the geographic center of the residential campus.
