Chávez Hall, opened in Fall 2017 alongside Tubman Hall, is widely considered among the best housing on Stony Brook's campus. Part of the $124 million Chávez-Tubman Community, it is reserved for juniors and seniors (minimum 57 credits). Each suite houses 4–5 students in individual single bedrooms, sharing two separate fixtures (one shower, one toilet/sink area), providing significantly more privacy than first-year housing. All rooms are air conditioned and about 110 square feet. East Side Dining — the largest dining facility on campus with 68,000 square feet and 10 mini-restaurants — is directly below the building. The complex also features multiple study lounges and a fitness center.
