About Bowles Hall

Bowles Hall is UC Berkeley's oldest residence hall and one of the most historically significant dormitories in the country, a 1929 Gothic Revival landmark on the northeast hillside of campus. Named for Regent Philip Bowles who funded the building. Long the only men-only dorm at Cal, Bowles became fully co-ed in 2016 after a multi-year renovation. Traditional corridor-style double rooms with communal bathrooms per floor. No air conditioning. Bowles's architecture, bay views, and strong house culture (including the famous Bowles Hall talent show) make it one of Berkeley's most coveted housing assignments.
