David Blackwell Hall is UC Berkeley's newest residence hall, opened in 2022 with 772 beds, making it one of the largest new dormitory additions at Cal in decades. Named for David Blackwell, the pioneering Berkeley statistician who was the first African American inducted into the National Academy of Sciences. Blackwell is fully air-conditioned — a significant departure from Cal's older halls — with modern suite-style and corridor configurations. Located near the main south campus area, Blackwell is part of Berkeley's effort to expand on-campus housing for its growing student population.
