About Community House Co-Op

The Community House Co-Op is one of Vassar's smallest and most intentional residential communities, housing approximately 10 students in the Town Houses area of campus. As a student-run cooperative, residents share responsibility for cooking, cleaning, and maintaining the house on a labor rotation — typically a few hours of community work per week per resident. The co-op model fosters a particularly close-knit and self-sufficient community, with residents sharing meals and communal decision-making about house life. The kitchen is a social center of the house; shared dinners are a regular ritual. Like Vassar's other older buildings, Community House has no central AC, but the small scale of the community and the house's placement in the Town Houses area provide a quieter, more residential feel. Students interested in cooperative living, sustainability, or close community often list this as a top choice in the draw. Application or expression of interest may be required.
